Lessons from the Stories of Prophets and Messengers

We all love stories; they connect the past and present to the future. Stories shape our perspective of the world and have been used to pass down knowledge and morals across generations. They can awaken future generations to their potential by modelling a way to connect to our history and to our values.
Allaah has informed us in the Qur’an about the stories of the people of past and He also commanded the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to do so:
“… so relate the stories, perhaps they may reflect” surah al-A’raaf 7:176Allaah mentioned their purpose in surah Yusuf:111
“Indeed, in their stories, there is a lesson for men of understanding…”
We all talk about the tough times we are going through in our lives; however, the Prophets and messengers of Allaah were the ones who faced the highest levels of challenges in fulfilling the missions they were sent with. The tough times they faced is incomparable and would make our challenges look insignificant. In fact, Allaah strengthen our beloved Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) with their stories, as He mentioned
“And all that We relate to you (O Muhammad) of the news of the Messengers is in order that We may make strong and firm your heart thereby…” Hud:120
Their trials and how they overcame them – the Obedience of Ibrahim (Alayhis salaam), the Patience of Ayyub & Yakoob (Alayhis salaam), the persistence of Nooh (Alayhis salaam), Boldness & Perseverance of Moosa (Alayhis salaam), the resistance of Yusuf (Alayhis salaam) from temptation and the dedication, perseverance and steadfastness of all of them in accomplishing their missions in life.
So, be prepared for storytime – to reflect, derive lessons, to make our hearts strong & firm from the inspirational stories of The Men on Mission.
